As students continue to wonder if Western was a good choice for them, and Spring term seeming more and more in doubt, are there any updates to what is happening? Are there any negotiations happening? Any meetings planned?

I think the strike plan is outrageous. Most students work and make very low wages. Can they strike and get a raise? No, but they can get an education and aspire to better paying jobs. With the strike, the faculty is undermining our access to better education. Even if their ridiculous, unlogical reasoning says otherwise. Who can claim caring for students when stating that students will be asked not to cross the picked lines in the occurence of a strike?
The faculty is using its authority and abusing it by asking students to support them. Professors who take half of their time period to talk about the undergoing bargains and their low salaries are abusing their power and deserve no less than to lose their job. I sincerely hope that things will be seen for what they are. Students are young, influenceable and impressionable. The professors know it and some of them are ready to use it. If their work conditions are so intolerable why don't they apply to other jobs. There are openings in the philosophy and history departments at Willamette University. The truth is they probably would not be able to get a job anywhere else than at WOU. That is why they so desperatly want to stay. As for the departments complaints about their unability to get new faculty, the likely reason is that the interviewed candidates realize the mediocrity they will have to put up with and they consequently dcline the offer. Of course they blame the wages but isn't it the polite thing to do?
